Latino ladies shake it
Friday, July 10th, 2009

Saturday July 4th ( American Independence Day) was celebrated by members of the Grupo Latino and friends, at the Sports & Leisure Centre Hervey Bay. Over 90 people attended on the night with many dressing up, or down, to get in the spirit of the U.S.A. The local band Mojo kept the patrons dancing to the rhythms of Latin to Rock, and everything in between. Even Zorba the Greek resurfaced for a crowd pleaser.
Everyone is now waiting for the next one, which will be Christmas in OZ on Saturday 5th December 2009.
Latino Group, Greek Night; Stafford Park Sports & Leisure Centre (Seagulls Football Club).
Oh Boy, what a Night it was on Saturday the 22nd of November at the Seagulls Football Clubhouse Hervey Bay!!Christmas in Mexico!! One of the best so far….
Members and guests of the Australian Grupo Latino celebrated their last social for the year with live music provided by Bob Campbell (drums) and Jackie MacDonald ( guitar & vocals ) and they kept the dancers busy on the dancing floor all night, with an array of Cha Cha’s, Sambas, Merengues, Rumbas, Tangos & of course Rock & Roll’s.
With an impromptus performance of The Three Amigos (or were there four?) It doesn’t matter three or four, they where magnificos….
The hall was smartly decorated with a Mexican Navidad (Christmas) theme, it really made you feel you were in Mexico
With the majority of the patrons dressing up for the night, never seen so many Mexicans together in one place in Australia, you all looked so smart so Mexicans, and you all danced so well. Que lindos
You’ll have to agree with me that, the highlight of the night was the the visit of Santa, what a joyful Santa, and as there was no naughty girls or boys, he distributed gifts to everyone.
We had a wonderful time can’t wait for the next one in 2009

Last Sunday afternoon some members of the Australian Grupo Latino got together at the Hervey Bay RSL to listen to the music of ” Mexicano ” Jackie MacDonald (guitar) and Bob Campbell (drums) and enjoy a drink and the company.
The music was great of course, a shame we couldn’t get up and dance as the area didn’t have a dance floor and the space restricted with tables and chairs. The temptation was so great, that some or our members had to get up and dance on a carpeted floor. Wouldn’t it be great if the venue catered for dancers?
Hasta la vista

Well is was a much smaller turnout this time at the Groupo Latino monthly get together at Soul-Sa Restaurant and Bar on the Esplanade Hervey Bay. A few of the regular attendees Brian and Leonie plus Jose and Carol were out of town on this occasion.
We still got together and had a nice meal and interesting conversation with some lively Latin music and dancing!

Well I was considering staying in last night but when my friend Rob Messenger State MP for Burnett telephoned to say he was in town and would like to catch up after he had finished his political business we decided a fun time to unwind would be at the Latino Social Groups Dance and Social Night (1st Friday of every month at Soul-Sa Restaurant on the Esplanade). My friend Kay decided to join us and off we went to meet up with the Latino Group.
Rob was welcomed by Brian and the group members and immediately fitted right in. After some initial coaxing Rob participated in a group Salsa lesson led by Leonie and picked up the moves quite quickly stating that the dancing was;
“Great in the alley way….it’s not threatening for beginners”.
Kay being the dance enthusiast she is was snapped strapping her knee up in an attempt to achieve maximum dance performance!
Soul-Sa Restaurant owners Robyn and Steve did a wonderful job as per usual and are always a delight to chat with.
Thanks Rob, Kay, Soul-Sa and the Latino Group for as per usual a FUN night out!

Our Latin Social Group AGM Dance was on Saturday the 30th of August.
The theme of our night was E; i.e. country or anything that starts with E.
So guess who attended besides Elvis with Pricilla and Elton. We had Elizabeth Taylor and an Elegant English lady with her Gentry, Kings and Queens of Egypt, Ecuador & Ethiopia. Egyptian belly dancers, Elf’s also a horny little Evil guy.
We all danced the night away till late; Tango, Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa & Merangue.
Please enjoy the pics (please click on images to see larger version, then click on post title Latin Social Group AGM Dance to return to this page. Click on Comments at the very bottom of post to make a comment).

It is true to say that in this country the words “Can we dance” can strike abject fear into any man’s heart.
I mean: dance? Let’s just say that for most men these days, the potential for complete embarrassment is not just tangible, it’s real!
However, as a recent Friday night experience in Hervey Bay showed, real men need not suffer dance phobia in the slightest!
I was invited along by a friend who recently started dance classes with a new dance school in Hervey Bay which specialises in Latin and ballroom …
Grupo Latino Inc., a local cultural organisation promoting “all things Latin” host a social event commencing 7.00 pm (or thereabouts!) the first Friday night of every month at Soul-Sa Restaurant and Bar, Scarness, Hervey Bay. Here, you can listen to infectious Latin rhythms, enjoy a drink and savour great food all at once. Not to mention the ever enthusiastic restaurant and bar staff, especially Robyn and Steve who are always ready with a joke and a smile.
The Grupo Latino members are happy to give a short free dance lesson to people who join in. And the many enthusiastic dancers who attend do enjoy themselves!
Things being what they are, at these evenings, dancing happens sooner or later! I’m now hooked. My two left feet are on their way to being tamed. I’m having a ball - and dealing with my dance phobia at the same time.
So, see you there – or on the dance floor!

Last Friday night on the 4th of July 2008 I attended the second Latin Social Group event in Hervey Bay at Soul-Sa (Restaurant and bar).
I had a delicious steak for dinner, a few beers then the music got the better of me.
My jacket was off and I got stuck into some seriously fun dancing!
The people were friendy, the food was delicious, the dancing was fun and the atmosphere was fantastic!
I can’t wait for the next one!
